Do We Really Believe?

2nd Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.[ The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

I will never forgot when I first got saved and how on fire I was, but just as important how bold I was. I ask this question for us to dig into our own belief as I am digging into mine. It is so easy to say yes I believe as we look at the majesty of the night sky, or hear the roaring of the ocean waves hitting the beach. How can you deny the creator when you are driving through the Cimarron pass in New Mexico? We see his handy work when life is new on the farm, or our first child is placed into our hands. We can grasp the heaviness of creation that the almighty God has given us. We read the bible and we see his creation and so we know it is true.

The problem lies within ourselves, yes God has made beauty and breathed life. Yet, I am still me and that will not change. You know the older we get the harder it is for some of us to truly believe that we are a new creation. It is easy for us to believe when we first get saved. We believed then that our sins have washed away, we believed then that we were free and free indeed. We took everything in the Bible as truth, and placed it in our hearts forever.

So, as our Christian walk started with a fire why has it become a flickering candle? What has happened within us to become a smoldering fire? Is this our own doing? How can I believe I am a new creation, how can I show that I am a new creation when all I do is fail? We get stuck in the ruts of life and start digging ourselves out. Then we finally stop to gather our breath and realize the mass failure we have caused while digging out. We look back on our walk and many of us myself included see a muddied walk filled by worldly desires. Our path tends to be more crooked then straight.

We see our paths from our eyes staring at our past. When we are watching our past the lies of the devil seem to be louder than the still voice of God. I have said it before and I will say it again. Through Christ we have been given victory over death and sin and “the devil knows he cannot take away that victory but he will never allow you to walk in the fullness of that victory”. So he inundates us with lies of who we are or what we have done. Yes the sins that we have committed are scarred on our souls forever. Our Lord has promised us forgiveness of those sins, but never to remove the memory of those sins. So, the devil takes those memories and uses them to shackle us back up to our past. We tend to be tied to it instead of growing from it.

One thing that I have realized over the last year is this. Just because I say I am a minister of the gospel saved by the blood of Christ with his grace and mercy poured out over my life. This does not mean I will not fail or fall into a temptation. My flesh is weak and I know the protections and walls I have to put up around me to be able to stand strong. The protections and walls come from God. His word that sometimes the devil will place doubt into. And that is what he did with Jesus so don’t think he won’t do that with you.

We must realize that if we don’t believe one thing in the bible we don’t believe the bible at all. Are we a new creation? Yes, yes we are a new creation. What it is though is our perspective. We fail and we fall daily so the devil says look at what you did you are not saved you are not of Christ. How could a “Christian” act like that. But, Jesus says look where I brought you from. Look what I did for you on the Cross. Jesus says I died for you to wash away the sins as far as the East is from the West. Are you a knew creation? Yes you are everyday you pick up your cross and follow Christ. Remember this even Jesus Christ himself fell carrying his cross, and so will you. And Just as Jesus finished what he was sent to do, so will you. No matter what brothers and sisters stand strong, keep the faith, and be bold. No matter what you have done in your past, it will not hinder the gravity of the cross and what Jesus did for you and me.

Many Blessings
